This work is inspired by the famous Unicorn in Captivity tapestry in the Met's medieval collection at the Cloisters. The unicorn, symbolizing the longed for Christ, is at last captured and enclosed in a circular fence for safekeeping. In my work, the gilded cage is attempting to enclose, to hold on to, the Creation (our magnificent expanding universe).
